The University of Electronic Science and technology of China, located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is a university directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. The school, formerly known as Chengdu Institute of telecommunication engineering, was founded in 1956 by the merger of telecommunication engineering related majors of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi'an Jiaotong University), Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) and South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology); In 1960, it was listed as a national key university by the CPC Central Committee; In 1961, it was designated as one of the seven national defense industrial colleges by the CPC Central Committee; In 1988, it was renamed University of Electronic Science and technology; In 2000, the former director of the Ministry of information industry was transferred to the director of the Ministry of education; In 2017, it entered the ranks of 'double first-class' class a universities in China.
